Our Mission

Football for an HIV-Free Generation harnesses Africa’s passion for football to prevent HIV. It uses the power of sport as the impetus for innovative large scale, comprehensive youth focused HIV prevention for young people. In July 2010 for the first time ever the FIFA Soccer World Cup will be hosted on African soil. Already preparations are far advanced and excitement is building across Africa. This new initiative taps into that excitement by using football as the entry point for an evidence based strategy that draws on best practice for HIV prevention, youth communication and sports for development.

Our strategy is to:

  1. To use the most popular sport in Africa to fight one of the most feared diseases
  2. To re-engage young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
  3. To help boost leadership, increased country-level focus and funding in support of more concerted country-level HIV-prevention across Africa.
  4. To create an all-Africa HIV prevention campaign that utilizes the power of football.
  5. To effectively use the African media to amplify efforts in African communities
  6. To develop a network of young leaders across Africa able to deliver football for prevention of HIV.
  7. To support a network of organizations that implement HIV prevention programs through football.
  8. To promote soccer as a foundation for healthy lifestyles.
